Captain Lewis Geneway's Company

Lewis Geneway was Swiss. He joined the British Army as a Volunteer in 1756, and served in North America until 1762. When the rebels invaded Canada in 1775, he served with the British Militia at Quebec. He then was posted to the 60th Foot where he held the appointment of Deputy Quartermaster. He was commissioned a Captain in the Rangers 17 September 1781, but saw no service with the Corps as he was continually employed on the Commander-in-Chief's staff at Quebec. He died in Montreal after the war. Geneway might have succeeded Andrew Thompson in command of this company when Thompson was drowned on Lake Erie in 1781 when his company was being relieved at Detroit. The company was in the Ohio Valley in 1780-1781, and parts of it re-enforced Caldwell in 1782.
